Gerhard Henning. ‘Prinsessen på ærten’ porcelain figure, decorated in overglaze colours. Princess and the Pea figure with princess on mattress, corners mounted with gold-painted bells. Designed in 1911, signed with Gerhard Henning’s monogram, Royal Copengahen and Juliane Marie mark on the underside and dated ‘2-3-20’. First quality. H. 24 cm. The figure was produced as the top for a jewellery box, from 1911, in a limited number, approx. 20. Main work by G.H. The figure, which took 6-7 months to produce, gave him a gold medal at Salon de Paris in 1912. ‘… it is undoubtably the exquisite polychrome treatment and the powder-matt carnation that has given Henning’s figures their unique place in European porcelain art’.
